Dinkelsbühl is a municipality of 11.584 inhabitants. The town is situated on the Romantic Way and its historical centre boasts beautiful residences and has 16 towersThe Cathedral of St. George is one of the most beautiful late Gothic cathedrals in the whole of Germany. At night, the custom of the night watchman who fulfils his throng in the illuminated historical centre is still respected. In 1305 the town received the Emperor Henry V. In 1305 the town was granted the same municipal rights as Ulm. In 1351 it was recognized as a free city of the Empire and the wisdom of its government is attested in the collection of laws known as the “Right of Dinkelsbühl“. With the Protestant Reformation it became, as did other cities, a Paritaria Imperial city (Paritätische Reichsstadt, officialising, with the Peace of Westfalia its administration of equal rights between Catholics and Protestants (Gleichberechtigung) until 1802, when it was annexed to Bavaria.

A last glance at the Cathedral of St. Georg and we resume our walk at first in a busy environment, and then in a predominantly wooded country, characterized by continuous ups and downs, with a sparse population. From the Marktplatz on the left we cross the Ledermarkt, then the Altrathausplatz, we cross the River Wornitz, turn right on the Inselweg which we follow for 600 m up to Am Bruhl or St2220, where we turn left, we cross another branch of the River Wornitz and arrive on the 25 or Augsburger Strasse; we turn right and after 150 m we have a choice: continue on the cycling lane which follows the 25 or continue straight on the Alte Neustadtleiner Strasse which keeps us out of the traffic; however, in less than 2 km we will be in Neustadtlein. We enter the small village after crossing the Railway and turning right on road 25; we continue on this lane and in 1 km we shall be in Knitteisbach. Continuing straight for 1,3 km, on the same road, now shaded with trees, we arrive near an industrial estate; we cross the 25 and turn around the containers up to the Industriestrasse where we turn left and follow it, we cross a group of houses up to enter the Linburgerstrasse; we cross the railway and enter into Wiburgstetten which we cross up to the Weitingerstrasse; we turn left and cross the railway again, then we turn sharp right. We pass through an area with ponds and we are in the open country. We pass by a pond on the right and cross a wood, out of it we take to the right, 250 m, again through the fields, we return to the wood and, then again fields and find the road which on the left leads to Wolfsbuhl. We cross the village and start going uphill crossing a large forest, with several clearings, after 1,5 km, we reach the highest altitude of this stage: 530 m above sea level, and after a further 1,5 km we are again in the open country; pay attention to the numerous forestry roads. It is advisable to pay great attention to your map. On coming out of the forest we are in a fine agricultural region, dotted with farms; by the first houses we turn right then left and reach a locality called Bosacker which we cross and turn right to return into the forest for 2 km 800 m walking between fields and woodland then 1,3 km more in the fields and enter Schopflohe on the Urlasstrasse; we turn right on the Schmiedsbuck; we cross the Schulstrasse and see get out of the town walking along the Fremdinger Strasse. 1,5 km on the Fremdingerstrasse or Don4 and we have reached our goal: Fremdingen. We enter the town walking along the Schopfloherstrasse which leads directly to the Church of St. Gallus.
