55 – (ITA 7) – Termeno– Salorno / Tramin – Salurn
Stage 7 – Termeno-Salorno – With this last stage you will leave Alto Adige/Südtirol and go to Trentino. Short and simple stage, it will allow us to enjoy the landscape, among well-kept vineyards and apple orchards everywhere.
The walk starts from the main square of the town: the Church of San Giacomo is worth a visit. Then we head towards the hamlet of Ronchi. Take the beautiful path 8 to Cortaccia (Kurtatsch) in the midst of splendid vineyards. Then you reach Cortaccia. (After Cortaccia the cyclists go towards the Industrial Zone. They pass under the railway and arrive as far as the motorway). Those on foot instead, follow the path (Weinlehrpfad) dedicated to wine with many notice boards on the local vines. You arrive in Niclara (Entiklar); then, following the signs for Penon, path 3, you can enjoy another suggestive route in the midst of vineyards, with constant ups and downs, until you descend on the paved road (path 3) and arrive in Margreid (Magrè). Take Via della Stazione, go under the railway and go over the Brenner motorway, over the Adige river, up to the cycle path. (at the first houses of Laghetti, cyclists can continue on the cycle path up to Salorno: 5 km). On foot, on the other hand, cross the SS 12 (pay attention to traffic) on the pedestrian crossing, and enter the small center of Laghetti. Follow the sign for Salorno which you will meet after several kilometres, walking at the foot of the mountains which characterize the left side of the Adige Valley.
7- Points of Interest
Salorno – A village on the valley floor, with an altitude ranging from 224 to 1,328 metres above sea level, it is the largest winegrowing area in the region, specializing mainly in white wines. It is the southernmost municipality that is part of the Tyrolean culture. Here, the “Chiusa di Salorno” (Salurner Klause) forms a natural barrier between the Germanspeaking and Italian-speaking areas, as well as the border between the Bassa Atesina (South Tyrolean Unterland) and the Piana Rotaliana in the province of Trento. From the two villages Pochi (560 m) and Cauria (1,328 m), you can enjoy a panoramic view of almost the entire Adige Valley as well as the peaks of the Brenta Dolomites. Even prominent figures such as Napoleon, Martin Luther and Albrecht Dürer realised that this is a very special part of the world, when they visited this village along the wine route!
Kurtatsch – It extends from the valley floor at 212 m a.s.l. to the summit of Monte Corona (1830 m a.s.l.). The territory is covered by almost 600 hectares of orchards, 330 hectares of vineyards and 70 hectares of fields and meadows. Viticulture has been practiced since Roman times, as evidenced by the discovery of a vine that probably dates back to this period. In the municipality of Kurtatsch there are wineries that produce fine wines. We recommend the Wine Trail, an educational path along which you can follow all the processes related to the production of wine, as well as tasting it.
