Stage 10 – Levico-Borgo Valsugana – The stage is easy and will follow the Brenta cycle path. For those who love art linked to the environment, a visit to Arte Sella is recommended, which can be reached after a long climb.

From Levico follow the Via Regia (Via Claudia Augusta); after crossing the provincial road, take Via Cervia up to the Brenta cycle path. After a while you can take a parallel road, with a more interesting landscape and no traffic. You pass in front of the little church of San Silvestro, go along the railway and then take the cycle path that crosses the river and follows it on the left bank; then returns to the right bank; you enter a beautiful wood; the railway is underpassed. You enter the center of Borgo Valsugana in Piazza Alcide De Gasperi.

CONNECTION FOR ARTE SELLA (further 6.5 km): once you get off Levico, you go towards the hamlet of Barco. At the crossroads with the cycle path, cross the Brenta and follow the signs for Località Rio Sella which you pass; the climb begins in an increasingly fascinating landscape. It’s 4.5 km, but at the top there will be a beautiful landscape of forests and meadows, and you will be able to visit the works of many artists from all over the world who have used and only use materials found locally; there is also a very efficient refreshment point available. From Sella you return to Borgo Valsugana following the road, almost always paved but with no traffic, with the possibility of various small detours in the woods to see the works of art. 12.5 km and we are in Borgo Valsugana

10- Points of Interest

Via Claudia Augusta – Tiberius Claudius Augustus built the Via Claudia Augusta in 47 AD, covering a distance of 350 miles. For a long time it was the most important road in the Alps. It united the far north and the south of Europe. From Trento you could go over the Reschen Pass, via Bolzano, Merano and the Vinschgau Valley (Val Venosta). The Tabula Peutingeriana shows that it connected Ostiglia, Verona and Trento. Then from Altino it reached Trento, passing through Feltre and Valsugana. In Germany and Austria, the Claudia Augusta is the backbone of a low-cost tourism business. The Claudia Augusta cycle path begins on the Danube, south of the town of Donauwörth, not far from Mertingen. The beginning of the path is marked by a modern copy of a Roman milestone.

Arte Sella – There is a place where nature is transformed into contemporary art, which has had its home in the Val di Sella since 1986. An immense open-air exhibition of real works of art made with stones, leaves, branches and tree trunks. Arte Sella, with its ArteNatura trail, is not a simple exhibition, but a creative process in which the work of each artist takes shape day by day in the place, taking materials and inspiration from nature itself. The most famous piece is the stupendous Tree Cathedral, which has become an icon of the exhibition. Its majesty and beauty remains visible in every season; covered in snow it is an even more impressive sight. From April to October it becomes the scene of important art events, from exhibitions to stories, to wonderful open-air concerts: unique emotions. Arte Sella is part of the Great Italian Gardens network, along with the Park of Levico Terme.

Borgo Valsugana – The centre of Borgo Valsugana – Ausugum for the Romans – is cut and shaped by the Brenta River: in every corner there are delightful views and fine architecture, much of which already has a Veneto flavour. Besides the imposing Telvana Castle, which towers over the town, you must see the Churches of St. Francis, St. Roch and St. Anne, the Ceschi Palace, the Venetian bridge over the Brenta, the water-powered Tognolli Forge, the Alcide De Gasperi Hall, the Great War Museum, and Spazio Klien. The entire valley is served by the spectacular Valsugana railway, which connects Venice to Trento via Bassano del Grappa, and is also flanked by a beautiful cycle path along the Brenta
